Jimmy-Gilmer91224.jpg Chronicle: Veteran publisher Jimmy Gilmer passed away Sept. 7. He was 83. Gilmer was born in Chicago and raised in Amarillo, TX. In 1963, he and his band The Fireballs had a No. 1 Pop and R&B hit with "Sugar Shack." In 1970, Gilmer joined United Artists as professional manager and opened its Nashville office. He spent a total of 11 years with UA, and had subsequent VP stops at CBS Songs/Nashville, SBK Productions and EMI-Nashville Productions. Gilmer also signed Brad Paisley and managed him at the start of his career. No word on services.
